U Comment I Follow with CommentLuv

Published by ourmonmouth at 2:59 pm under Announcements

Today I removed the nofollow tag from comments on this blog and recently added the commentluv plugin as well. My goal of this blog has not only been to share information but to encourage interaction and community. I hope you take advantage of these features because your comments and feedback fuel this blog.

Some of you may be unfamiliar with nofollow (I hope this helps):

nofollow is a non-standard HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of spamdexing, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place.
“nofollow.” Wikipedia. Wikipedia, 2008. Answers.com 22 Apr. 2008. http://www.answers.com/topic/nofollow

nofollow HTML example:
<a href="http://www.anofollowlink.com" rel="nofollow">A No Follow Link</a>

Comment spam will be deleted.

Best wishes

I’d like to pass out link love to commenters as well, but…

What sort of extra ‘filters’ (if that’s the right word for it) do you have to use to protect yourself once the spambots realize you are a ‘follow’ rather than a ‘no follw’ blog.

Oh, and by the way, I want to keep all comments on my blog immediately published without my approval, becuase it really does help the conversation keep going. (That plus I’m too darn busy to uber-monitor it.)

Jamie – I think it is a good idea to manually approve all 1st time visitors comments. After that you can leave it to spam filters and comment review.

CommentLuv is a great plugin – I run several blogs/maintain websites myself like http://www.virtual-coach.com and http://www.askowlbert.com and have found it invaluable.

Comment Relish, alas, I uninstalled, because received email was obviously identifiable as auto-generated and not personal.

http://www.timnash.co.uk/comment-prompt/ is another wordpress plugin to encourage comments – I have something similar installed on my vbulletin.

    Enjoy,

Commentluv is a great plugin, never heard of a negative comment about it till today.

Although i have nofollow in my blog, i think commentluv helps in some amount of traffic too :)

I haven’t added the CommentLuv plugin yet, however I have allowed my commentators’ names to be followed for some time now without too much hassle from spammers. Akismet does a great job of catching the majority of spam, so allowing comments to follow is my way of showing my appreciation for taking the time to read my post and to share opinions (which is also why I’ll be adding the CommentLuv plugin soon).

    Interesting!
CommentLuv helps you reward your commentators by separating their name from their keywords in the link to their site. This gives them improved anchor text, which can help their site rank higher in the search engine results.
You can now leave a comment with your name as well as a keyword of your choice here and get a PR5 link back to your site! How cool is that? People pay big bucks for that and all you have to do is comment here.

I am trying to use the newest version of commentluv but am finding it is having spotty success for me. My blog accepts the posts fine, it is my posts that seem to be hit or miss. Andy is great though at helping work thru issues.

Akismet is great. It catches about 75% of spam. Too bad it wasn’t automatically activated on the standard worpress installation.

I still review all of my comments on my blogs but that’s because I value each comment and usually respond if necessary. It’s really a personal call for each blog owner.

The CommentLuv Wordpress Plugin will visit the feed of the comment author and attempt to scrape the last post they made and display it under their comment, this way we can encourage people to join in the discussion of your posts and give something back straight away.
Cool plugin. Nice info about it.

Nice, I think it could be interesting to add some more entries following this one, and probably it’s not only me having this opinion. Cheers!

Most of the filters do a fair job filtering comments out. Anytime you can give a link back to readers they will comment on your site. I see some sites do well with comment luv it seems all the comments make the site more active to google.

I love the CommentLuv plugin. I personally don’t mind whether a blog is follow or nofollow, that has never really been a thing I thought about (I post on blogs with and without nofollow), but when a blog has commentluv, they tend to get more “luv” from me :-) .
